A little piece of history
Our neo-Renaissance mansion in the Groothertoginnelaan was built in 1895. The land was donated by the great duchess from Saksen-Weimar-Eisenach. It was here that the Duinoord district had its origin, specially built for people returned from the old East Indies. These wealthy families used to live in our premises.
On the ground-floor they dined, made music, read their books and papers and welcomed visitors. On the first and second floor the master-bedrooms were situated as well as the bedrooms for their children and nannies . On the third floor under the wooden beams the other servants were accommodated. Climbing the beautiful flight of stairs or looking at the ornated front of the hotel you can still feel their presence. No wonder that our imposing mansion is under local city protection.
A walk in this area is a real `must`, so many gorgeous details, curved streets, tiny shops and restaurants.
Our rooms express an eye for detail
From your room on the street-side you have a lovely view on the pond and the grand embassies.
Are you a light sleeper? Ask for a room at the back.
Not one room is the same, they are all different in size, decoration, furnishing and height. The wonderful thing they all have in common: comfortable high beds. And light-resistant curtains, a safe and tea and coffee set.
Our team is our life-force. You can rely on them to make your stay a success. Our heroes from house-keeping, cheerfull breakfast-assistants, enthusiastic front-office and reliable night-porters are always anxious to assist in giving suggestions about restaurants, museums and secret hidden spots in The Hague.
Contributing to a sustainable The Hague is definitely part of our responsibilities. And that is quite a challenge in a historic building. We are a member of the Sustainability Circle Hotels The Hague. Here we exchange knowledge and ideas with fellow hotels to take it one step further. For example, we participate in GoGetGreen, a program in which you as a guest can choose to skip the cleaning of your room for a day. This way we save the environment and you collect extra Best Western Rewards points. A win-win situation! TooGoodToGo helps us to throw away as little food as possible. After breakfast, all non-reusable products are still sold. You can read our extensive CSR statement here.
